The Fading

The Fading was the fate of deathless gods who have their divine essence scattered or depleted so absolutely that they are unable to manifest true consciousness or power. When a god fades, clerics and other kin who draw their power directly from that god will lose their powers as well, starting with the least devout until even the once champion of a god no longer can call on their power. The Fading is not permanent, for we know the gods to be deathless, but those who have risen once more from The Fading are changed and often far weaker. Only the primordial Heavens, Ouranus, has ever returned in full.
