Mirage

Mirage (a.k.a. Mies)

“My true self?” Mirage let out a disbelieving huff of laughter that the real Rotti had never done in his life. “I’ve been the Elder's Mirage for so long I don’t even remember who that was, sugar. But I’m guessing you’ll be most comfortable with a face you don’t know.”
Mirage is one of the three Champions of The Elder, but is more generally known as the supernatural world's most prominent sex worker and sometimes assassin when it comes to human adversaries. For the most part they avoid getting tangled in politics, including staying far out of the way of The Court of Irons.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Despite the constant changing of their appearance, there is one way to identify Mirage for extra-humans: to them, Mirage appears to have two shadows for some strange reason.

Special abilities

Mirage is sometimes referred to as 'The Illusory Champion'. They can change their appearance at will, switching between the bodies and clothes of people like other people swap out accessories. The longer they spend around a person the better they are able to 'absorb' their appearances and mannerisms, leaving them to slip unnoticed amongst humans and able to fool even a person's closest loved ones with only a couple of hours preparation. They occasionally suffer from bouts of something they call identity horror, where they are paralyzed where they are by the sheer extent of identities they held within them and the lack of a concrete sense of self. They often lose track of time in this state and can occasionally not move for days at a time.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

None of the Pantheon Champions even realised Mirage existed until the rescue of Pyra and J from the Court of Irons. While they knew a third Champion of The Elder existed it was certainly a shock to find a third person to free and led to a lot of improvising of their plan from them.   Mirage left them as soon as they were aware and calm again, but it must have made an impact as they came to Sarnport a few months later and promptly began causing minor trouble, displaying their usual mischievous nature. They were particuarly fixated on Selina since they considered her actions during the rescue to have been very generous and liked to use her form and muted emotions to calm herself down.   Nobody in the supernatural community is quite sure how long Mirage has been around; after all, their appearance isn't static and they reguarly take other names when imitating someone, so it is hard to tell if Mirage has always been the same person or has been a number of different people. Mirage themselves is pretty assertive that they are the oldest of The Elder's Champions and there is no evidence to refute that.

Gender Identity

Mirage's pronouns change depending on the person they are imitating, though they don't seem to mind being called by any pronouns at any time- gender and sexuality are a bit of a fluid thing to a shapeshifter.

Morality & Philosophy

Mirage has a rather loose sense of morality, as seems to be the trend for The Elder's Champions, but has their own code that they won't undermine- they do their own checks on the rare occasions they take on assassination contracts, and won't even consider going after children, being more likely to try to kill the person taking out the contract instead. They also abide by the rules of extra-human authorities, shown by her abiding by the Pantheon Champion's rules in Sarnport once they made contact with Mirage, but has no issue messing with human authorities considering her games with the SCPD and their FBI profiler.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Once Mirage came back to Sarnport they seemed to focus most on Selina, who was one of those to rescue them from the Court and also had no problem shooting them in the leg when they awoke and reacted by trying to strangle Vix, thinking they were still in someone's custody. Mirage took this as a kind favour, as it was a non-lethal shot. They were determined to return this favour, but mellowed out after their actions got Selina in trouble and she grudgingly took Mirage under her wing.   Mirage also knows Ryan West, having apparently run into him at an extra-human bar at some point, and considers them friends. Ryan might disagree, but that doesn't tend to mean much to Mirage.   Despite their connection to J and Pyra, Mirage doesn't really interact with them much beyond occasionally sending them letters with strange trinkets and unsolicited advice about being a Champion of The Elder.
