Here are some steps to help you build your character's backstory. This is essential for the campaign's plot.
1. Read Marley's Encyclopedia
Please be guided by the worldbuilding of this world, so that your backstory doesn't accidentally become out-of-this-world.
You do not have to read everything. In fact, it makes sense for you and your character to not know certain world details. Additionally, since the encyclopedia only includes face-value descriptions, you can add to those descriptions.
The most important reads are the articles under
Articles About Our World. This is what helps keep the worldbuilding consistent.
2. Decide Your Background
To help with your backstory, here are some elements of your backstory to keep in mind:
- Your hometown (most important)
- Your reputation
- Your languages (check hometown language) (besides Paravox ofc)
- Your social status
- Your previous occupation (if any)
What's most important is your hometown. Determine where you came from. Other details are not as necessary but they do help.
3. Decide Your Appearance and Age
These details can be basic and are mostly to determine your character profile.
Depending on your appearance and age, some NPCs may treat you differently.
Please also
prepare an image that I can use for Roll20. You may get a reference from the internet or use your artist skills.
4. Create NPCs if any (good or evil)
If you currently have NPCs that are in the world right now, and you wish to interact with them in the future, please let me know.
These NPCs can range from family members to friends, to rivals, to main villains of the story. A basic description will suffice.
If you'd like to include anyone from the current list of
NPCs and
Villains to your backstory, let me know. I can reveal more information that could be relevant to your character.
5. Determine Your Relationship with Other PCs (if any)
Feel free to collaborate with other players to form bonds with them even before the campaign starts. You can work off each other's backstories and
create character dynamics in advance.
6. Determine How You Encountered The Knights
Knight Commander Mathilda is responsible for recruiting you into a squadron, consisting of knights-in-training.
This is how you join the party. Determine how and when she discovered you. You may always ask me for suggestions.
7. What is Paradise to You
Figure out what you want out of Paradise. After all, you joined the Knights, and the Knights' ultimate goal is to discover the mysteries of Paradise.
If you are the one to obtain Paradise, I need to know what you will wish for. If this wish also changes, please alert me in advance. This will help with the story's plot.
You may also have different interpretations of Paradise. Use the interpretations of other cultures as a basis.
8. Create Your Character Article
Lastly, figure out any information you want to share to the players. We will feature these information in a
dedicated article for your character. I'm giving you all the freedom to put whatever you want in these articles. Relationship trees, images, youtube videos, poems, diary logs
