1. Read the Player's Handbook
The Player's Handbook will help guide you through the mechanics of this homebrew Avatar System. This should also help you identify what is and isn't possible in this system. After that, let your creativity go wild.
2. Know Your Playstyle
All builds have strengths and weaknesses. Understand your character's build, determining what actions your character should be good at. If you notice that your character struggles with your supposed strength, feel free to approach the DM to talk about it.
Similarly, your character must have a weakness. Know that this weakness will be challenged in the future.
3. Understand the Party
Your weaknesses can be compensated by your party. This is what makes your party strong.
Compensating for each other's weaknesses drastically improves your effectiveness in and out of combat. Talk to your fellow players about what roles you each fill. This may help complement your dynamics as well.
