WorldEmber 2023 Homework

Week 1: Pledge Your Goal

I previously have focused on two separate town centers: one on the coast and one full of cheesy puns which actually became more serious. From a long ago prompt, I have various ideas on the actual history of Parcadia (the centralized government that is taking over the continent, no longer through wars but via trade and cultural routes)

The calendar in my world is centered around the current founding date of this version of Parcadia, but there have been previous versions that have fallen. It's related to the magic/energy of the nodes of the continent, which is why strange technical marvels can exist on the nodes and lines, but nowhere else. It's time to flesh out whast les that means for the rest of the continent and how they all relate.

MY FOCUS: Build out the central connections of the history of Parcadia to give the stories and tales some more structure to connect. Bring out the history, the magic, and the current state of Central Parcadia. Who are they, what are their motives for expansion (visible and hidden) and what is at risk if they fail? (I may clean up some other articles while I'm at it)

Week 2: Prepare Your Area of Focus

Mini Meta

Scope: The City Center of Central Parcadia. What is it like now? What's a normal day? Why do people move to the new City Centers like Helenskep? What is the central government and who is in charge? Why are they so concerned about expanding across the continent? If inspired, get into the past.

Mood: Central Parcadia is actualy an honestly "bright" place built on a series of dark failures. There are secrets hidden for the benefit of the people (for good or for bad). Ethical dilemna: how can the society be "good" if the only reason they survived is because of the badness of previous societies/cultures that were "bad"

Inspiration:

  • "I'd like to give the world a Coke" joy and happiness
  • That Family Secret that Everyone Knows but No One Talks About
  • Nodes and Channels - it's a network like a nervous system. THOUGHT: If they can control the "nervous system" then they can stabilize the continent and protect everyone with an "immune system"
  • Tomorrowland and other futuristic utopias, but less technology and more magical energy (No magical cell phones!)

Goals:

  • Layout of the Central Parcadian government
  • Current Leadership (at least 2 people)
  • The University (I have notes on this somewhere)
  • At least 2 more "day in the life" stories like the House of Corrections and the edgy tatoo
  • BONUS: Update the article about the tatoo - maybe grandma was given the tatoo as a child by her rebel parents, just to push it back more in the past.
  • BONUS: Lay out the timeline from founding to today - I might need to adjust the dates

I've created a new Staging category for WorldEmber 2023 to hold everything I come up with for my goals, and to help keep it separate if I haven't quite got all the bits and pieces integrated yet. WorldEmber 2023 Staging

Week 3: Welcome Your Readers

There is so much more I could do for my homepage. I completely rewrote my introduction, as I've shifted from a "Megacity" to a "Continent" as I want more diversity across the city centers. I don't think I'm at a point that I can make it more helpful, as I need non-writing things like maps, pictures and diagrams to help guide people through my world.

Week 4: Last Minute Prep

I have 2 weeks off at the end of the month to seriously get into this. The plan is to start templating articles the first week of December for what I'm writing about (make sure I've got that start date after the first!) then flesh them out later in the month.
