Enaski Wetlands

The Enaski Wetlands are an isolated marsh located in the Maru Maru Archipelago. The area is known for being inhospitable, marred with dangerous geological events, extreme weather, and toxicity.

Geography

The Enaski Wetlands are a toxic bog surrounding the now-dormant Empress volcano. The scalding magma that flows beneath the surface is partially responsible for the numerous crevices that litter the region, as are the outward eruptions during active periods, which additionally form large craters. The intense super storms that follow the volcanic activity have amassed boiling pools of standing water in these craters with no outlet into the ocean. Evaporation therefore makes the bog hypersaline and anoxic, depriving the area of oxygen.   The vents in the ground release carbon and sulfur dioxide that occasionally bursts from the pooled water, forming dangerous vog that spreads throughout the area. Combined with the low oxygen levels, it makes the region inhospitable for most forms of known life, however, some stubborn organisms seem to persist, adapting to the otherwise deadly environment.

Localized Phenomena

Particularly when the volcano is active, the entire area is marred with heavy, long lasting storms that make travel through the region impossible, not only because of high wind speed and extremely low visibility, but especially because the sulfur dioxide released into the air can result in highly corrosive acid rain.   Lahars, volcanic mudslides consisting of a slurry of water, rocky debris, and other material, are also common. They can be triggered by the heavy rainfall or eruptions of gas from crater lakes, and leave a devastating path of destruction in their wake.

Fauna & Flora

The most notable creature to call this habitate home is the Aerifor, a mysterious creature whose body is composed primarily of condensed plasma. As aerifor are exclusive to the Enaski Wetlands, very little is known about them. It is speculated that the frequent superstorms provide the creature with the energy needed to thrive here and nowhere else.   Acidic slugs, heat resistant spiders, and salamanders also call this dangerous terrain home.

Natural Resources

The region is rich in natural deposits of precious stones and metals, but due to the highly lethal nature of the region, most of it remains unharvested in any large scale capacity. It is not unheard of for ambitious groups of pirates, mercenaries, or thrill-seekers to attempt excavation in the hopes of wealth, but those few who aren't wise enough to turn back around once entering the region rarely ever return.
