The Flourished Feather
While a minor magic item compared to the legendary artifacts that litter the world, the Flourished Feather is a delightful gift for writers. That is, if you can find it. The Flourished Feather is a beautifully designed quill that once belonged to the elven novelist, Presphyra Gemspell. She was known for her romance novels that painted delicate imagery in one's mind, her handwriting as dainty as the stories she told.
The Flourished Feather has a pewter head and handle that's shaped into a fleur-de-lis at one end. Leading down from that and to the head are small emeralds. A vibrant, red plume erupts from one end of the quill. This item is enchanted so that the owner's writing is always in perfect cursive, both neat and eligible. There's no need for ink either as the Flourished Feather takes care of that magically as well.
After a voyage into the Masoud Desert, Presphyra was left heartbroken after losing her favorite quill among the ruins. Several expeditions were made in an effort to locate and reclaim it, but it was never seen again until three centuries later. The Flourished Feather is now in the ownership of famed author and queen of The Isles of Basilla, Zakina Kociak-Falenmir.
Significance
The Flourished Feather is a highly sought after collectible for famous authors and aristocrats alike. Several fake quills have been passed around ever since the original went missing, but the discerning treasure hunter can easily spot the differences. The Flourished Feather was handcrafted by a retired dwarven artist and his attention to detail was like no other. Those who are unaware of the quill's history fall for these scams, hoping they can own a piece of history or flip it for a huge payoff.
Presphyra has since given up her craft, feeling that she could no longer produce the same quality of work she had before. With the original artist behind the quill dying a century after its creation, there was no one else she could trust to make her another quill. While she's unaware that the Flourished Feather had finally been found, several collectors have heard rumors of it falling into Zakina Kociak-Falenmir's hands. They have no proof of such a thing and many others claim that she's been scammed like they had in the past.
