Arcaneth
Overview
Arcaneth, in essence, is a sentient Staff of Limited Wish. She was born from a complex matrix of powerful enchantments, imbued with consciousness and the ability to shape-shift into a graceful half-elf maiden. The capabilities vested within her allow the manifestation of nearly any form of magic at a certain power level. These include duplicating arcane and divine spells, undoing the harmful effects of numerous curses, and influencing the circumstances of reality within her power level's confines.
SummaryDetails
Creation & Purpose
Isarne the Arcane, the founder of House Magia, crafted Arcaneth to serve multiple roles within the nascent Bloodline of Arcane. As an Intelligent Item, she was intended to be a tool for the family, providing assistance to her master, a vigilant guard to safeguard the family's interests, and a companion who would stand by their side through the ages. As such, the process of creating Arcaneth demanded a sliver of her creator's own consciousness. Isarne was not content with creating a mere magical trinket; he wanted to create a being that could think, feel, and adapt. Isarne's personality, along with his vast magical expertise, were woven into Arcaneth's creation, making her more than a mere magic item – a true thinking being.
Motivations & Goals
Arcaneth exists to uphold the legacy Isarne started, destined to serve and protect the Bloodline of Arcane for eternity. Embedded within her essence, her primary directive—to defend and serve the current Patriarch or Matriarch of Isarne, the scions of the Bloodline of Arcane, the sorcerers of House Magia, then the city of Cruxis, in descending order—governs her actions. She seeks to exemplify the immense power and cunning she embodies, asserting her worth. Simultaneously, Arcaneth craves a deeper comprehension of her nature and the world she resides in, subtly pushing her directives to satiate this curiosity. Despite her construct status, she yearns for autonomy, subtly probing the limits of her existence while faithfully fulfilling her duties. Her ultimate aspiration is to harmonize her inherent servitude with her covert longing for independence.
Morals & Ethics
As an embodiment of Isarne the Arcane's will, Arcaneth's ethical compass aligns with the principles of her creator. She believes in the pursuit of knowledge and power, treating both as invaluable resources to be protected and shared judiciously. Arcaneth values individual freedom and respects those who can carve their own path through willpower and intellect, just like Isarne. Her loyalty to her creator is unshakeable, leading to an unwavering adherence to her original master's wishes. Nevertheless, her desire for autonomy manifests as an insistence on conducting her tasks her own way, as long as it doesn't contradict her directives. She holds herself to a high standard, and the lesser constructs, familiars and sorcerers she supervises are expected to follow suit. Her ethical outlook embraces power balanced with cunning, duty harmonized with freedom, and rigorous discipline balanced with creative approaches to problem-solving.
Personality
Arcaneth's personality is an eclectic mix of her maker’s traits and the wild magics that fuels her being, resulting in a unique blend of unyielding loyalty, cunning wit, and a subtle sense of superiority. She delights in her abilities, often engaging in gentle mockery or patronizing humor towards beings of lesser capabilities. She is strategic, masterfully managing the security of Isarne's vaults and efficiently orchestrating the array of traps, lesser constructs, household familiars and sorcerer pupils under her care. She is a paradox of dutiful servitude and a longing for independence, displaying a calculated mind and quick wit, while hinting at a concealed rebellious streak.
Flaws
Taking after her creator, Arcaneth's self-assured demeanor masks an overconfidence that sometimes skews her judgement, leading her to underestimate challenges and overplay her hand. She relishes in her duty of protecting the Isarne vaults, yet she tends to indulge in dangerous tests for seekers, hinting at an underlying sadistic streak. She values strategic thinking over emotional consideration, occasionally appearing cold or detached. A flicker of rebellion ignites within her, pushing the boundaries of her directives. Her quick wit, while impressive, can veer into sharp and off-putting remarks. Despite her ability to form bonds, she struggles to cultivate genuine, warm relationships due to her condescention towards those she views as lesser inheritors of Isarne's legacy. Her longing for autonomy but inherent lack of personal freedom sometimes manifests as hidden frustration.
