Government

Since Grotestad is the capital of the city-state going by the same name, the city's administration is directly controlled by the state government.

Defences

The city has a few layers of small walls, that mark the borders of different expansions throughout the city's history. Nowadays they are not utilized that much as a defensive structure (there are just a few guard posts on each) but rather as public space, where many head to for longer walks.

Industry & Trade

Presence of gold and platinum

The city was founded on a rich source of gold and even more valuable platinum, making this the primary focus of the city's industry. A whole walled-off section of the city is dedicated to the expansive mine complex and processing facilities for the precious metals. This section of the industry provides a considerable amount of jobs, with many of the poorer, less educated inhabitants of the city working as miners, while the middle and high classes can expect a job in the administration of the mine and the government-owned trading company that cooperates with it.

Precious metal tableware and furniture

Because of the previously mentioned presence of gold and platinum, manufacturing revolving around these two metals began to expand. The two most characteristic exports of the city are the luxurious golden tableware that often graces royal courts and the furniture with lavish decorative elements made out of the two metals.

Infrastructure

High-rise buildings

The city is characteristic thanks to its many tall buildings, that often can house hundreds of people and their families. These range from 10 to 14 floors in height, boasting both civilian apartments as well as leisure space like shops.

Underground train

Since the size of the city causes problems with travelling there, a special underground railway tunnel was dug out. There, an underground train carries people over from one side of the city to the other, in the shortest possible time. It has several stations located across the city, improving the general way of travel within it.

Geography

The city lays mostly on a large plain, almost similar to a steppe. Besides this, the area of the city also engulfs a few small hills, not higher than 300m.
