Guardsman of the 1st Elite Garde du Corps "The White Guard"

Here comes the White Guard, the Tsar's best of the best. I've seen their training once and feel obliged to say that those are not the men you would ever want to mess with, let alone meet on the battlefield. Solarian commander commenting on the White Guard during a parade

Career

Qualifications

To become a White Guardsman takes great effort and initiative, as new members are selected on the basis of their extraordinary achievements in their personal records.

Career Progression

The hierarchy of the White Guard can be divided into eight separate levels:
  • Cadet Guardsman
  • Corporal
  • Second lieutenant
  • First lieutenant
  • Unterofficer
  • Officer
  • Oberstleutnant/Oberstlieutenant
  • Commander of the White Guard

Payment & Reimbursement

The Tsarist Armed Forces cover all payments for their accommodation, food costs, health care and certain official matters that require a deposit. The pay they receive is equal to the standards of their rank, although they get additional bonuses so that it is higher than the usual.

Other Benefits

Members of the White Guard are considered the most elite of the Tsarist Armed Forces and thus with their job comes great social respect. They are allowed to always (that means even while not on duty) wear a distinct award cross which is received by them as they join the guardsmen ranks. It grants them a few social privileges, like having priority when dealing with official matters in governmental offices, a reserved seat for them in trams and such. Additionally, when they retire they are granted a sizeable pension to spend their last years peacefully.

Perception

Purpose

In wartime, the White Guard is meant as the most elite unit of the Tsarist Armed Forces, directly commanded by the Generalfeldmarschall or another member of the Supreme Command. In peacetime, the Guard is responsible for protecting the most important members of the government and military.

Social Status

The White Guard is widely respected within the Tsarist society as it is considered the most elite unit of the army. It is also them that protect the Tsar with his family on a daily basis and during all country and foreign travels, which furthermore stresses their importance and thus prestige. Families that have a member within their ranks are seen as well-behaved, patriotic citizens of the Tsardom, since they were able to create such an environment for an individual like that to grow up.

Operations

Dangers & Hazards

Since their work is focused on military operations during wartime and protecting the Tsar during peacetime, it is apparent that they run the risk of getting wounded or even death.
