A strange site: Petit Bateau

As the foothills meet the great mountains, on a gentle plain where two streams meet forming the Blueberry river sits a strange wonderous site. A small town with a small walled keep topped with great sea farming ships. A navy leagues away from any lake, sea or ocean that could float such a navy. Perched high on the city gates, towers and the great keep these ships have been incorporated into the fortifications and the town itself.   Rows and rows of huge ships listing on their keels or supported upright by scaffolding much of the town is the ships. Taverns, shops and homes are these old ships.   The reason for these ships on the plains are a legend itself. The Pembine king had defeated the Cascadians and their Chinook allies. To punish the great sea faring realm the fleet was demanded as reparations. Cascadian navy and soldiers hauled the ships through the valleys and mountain passes. Thousands died with the effort. Throughout the mountains great ship wrecks lay abandoned. One ship on a mountain top when an avalanche killed the crew assigned to move it. Once they reached the boarder of Pembina, at a small outpost now called Petit Bateau, the ships were left. Fulfilling the reperations those that surrvived the taks returned home. It is said 20 000 Cascadians died in those mountain passes.   Once left on the river bank, the Pembian king's dream of a large and mighty navy faded. The first ship was beached, sinking deep into the soft glacial sands. The fleet was simply left.   The great gate house has two ships high on its walls. The masts and riggings are replaced when needed. Guards sit in the crows nest when a better view is needed.   The largest ship is build into the great keep creating the strangest site. The city became a tourist destination due to its peculiar construction.
