Bloodstone
Bloodstone is the capital of Treland and the Shadowlands. It's position on the east side of the Trelish Pass - the main way through the Deadstones - along with its abundance of iron and gold have been critical to the success of the Talenovs first in their revolt and subsequently in keeping Treland under their rule.

History
In ancient times, Bloodstone was uninhabited. Shadowlanders told stories of how the land was haunted. The river there ran red, supposedly caused by giant on the Deadstones eating humans and spitting their remains into the river.
It remained vacant until Sir Oleg Talenov purchased it from the Zaberwalds in 455 AE. Prior to the purchase, the Talenovs had been a minor house in the Shadowlands, so poor that Oleg had been sent out to collect wages as a blacksmith's apprentice. When Oleg's father died and Oleg inherited the estate, he sold it to a rival house and used those proceeds to purchase a thousand acres between Ghostwood and the east face of the Deadstones.
The other nobles mocked Oleg, taking bets on how long he would survive. But Oleg knew better. From his experience as a blacksmith, he suspected that iron deposits were the cause of the red rivers. And how right he was. He founded the village of Bloodstone and began mining the rich iron ore deposits. Blacksmiths from all over flocked to Bloodstone, and before long it had grown into a thriving city.
Location
Bloodstone straddles the Blood River on the east face of the Deadstones. It is also at the eastern opening of the Trelish Pass, which is the only way to get through the Deadstones. Bloodstone controls the most plentiful iron mines in the known world and a fair number of gold mines.
Architecture
Houses in Bloodstone are typically made of timber and stone with roofs made of redclay shingles.
Defenses
The city of Bloodstone is walled and armed with ballistae. Bloodstone Castle is further protected by a mile wide bog that sits between it and the city. The only way to cross the bog safely is the six-foot wide bridge.
Bloodstone has only been attacked a handful of times. The most notable was during the Talenov Rebellion when the Zaberwalds took the city and had the castle surrounded. They waited for weeks, knowing that the Talenovs within would run out of water. Eventually, the doors to the castle were opened. The Zaberwalds triumphantly crossed the bridge and entered the castle, only to find that it was deserted. They watched as their captives flew with makeshift wings across the bog, leaving the Zaberwalds trapped inside. Or at least, that's how the story goes. To this day, even the great minds of Techence have been unable to determine how such wings could have been created with the materials on hand.
Natural Resources
The mountains near Bloodstone are filled with easily accessible iron and gold. The high iron content of the rocks is enough to make the Blood River run red.
Industry
Bloodstone is renowned for their world-class blacksmithing. Blades from bloodstone sell for a minimum of twice as much as the average blade, often times much more. Their proprietary blend of materials and craftsmanship make blades that are lighter and hold an edge better than any other.
Bloodstone is also the sole creator of bloodgold. Bloodgold is reddish in appearance and worth ten times standard gold.
