Prelude
Prior to the war, Marinth had enjoyed a time of unity between Grekete and Rigarta when they joined forces against their mutual enemy, the Tujirans. But when the Tujiran empire mysterious disappeared, the two city-states were left to fight each-other.
As populations increased, both Grekete and Rigarta raced to find arable land for colonies. Rigarta's first expidition by Icaron failed when he landed on the coast of the Rashid Deset, but his brother, Barco, succeeded by founding Barcova on the Trade Coast. The success of this expidition led to jealousy by the Greketians, while the Rigartans were concerned that Grekete was becoming too powerful due to their alliance with Crelphi.
Siege Of Grekete
After fighting back against the initial Greketian attacks, Rigarta was able to march on Grekete and put the city under siege. Famine and disease gripped the city.
Attack on Barcova
The Greketian senate consulted the oracle on whether or not they should surrended. The oracle advised them to relieve the pressure on the city by launching a naval offensive on the Rigartan colony of Barcova. The attack happened to correspond to volcanic ereuptions on Marinth and massive earthquakes, which created a tsunami that destroyed the entire Greketian fleet.
Rise of Barcova
The destruction of Marinth and flooding of low-lying areas around Barcova paved the way for them to expand rapidly and create the largest empire the world had ever (and has still ever) seen.
