Darkness and light, poverty and fortune, confusion and knowledge, loss and gain, pain and pleasure. The balance of these ever present forces drive the movers and shakers of this world toward "progress", a relatively defined direction that is often disputed and warred over. Resources are scarce in many places and much of that is caused by those individuals and groups who hoard them. The social standards make dealing with the general public an easy enough endeavor, even enjoyable, that is until you want to ask a favor of them. The people are mistrusting, wounded by their governors who take advantage of the powerful positions they stole for themselves. Money and resources are the true governors. However, the largest sums are held by very few, protected by magics of divine and evil origin. The poor are desperate, but the truly broken vagrants have found it easier to wither away. Meanwhile, the rich abuse their funds and use their power to take from the weak for more gain. Much of the realm seems to be unexplored by humanoid races, but creatures of all kinds loom on the land, in the sea, in the sky, in the stars, and some are fabled even to have come from other planes of existence entirely.
