Kilraxi Mountains

The Kilraxi Mountain Range, or <Error: Data not Found> in Low Arnan, is a mountain range that traces along the western and southern borders of the Dust. It is considered the boundary of the <Error: Data not Found> continent and is known to extend some distance further south, although how far south would not be discovered for some time.

Natural Phenomena

Along the northern and eastern portions of the mountains, auroras form frequently around the higher peaks. This is thought to be due to the relatively high concentration of magnetic metals.

Natural Resources

The mountains are a rich source of a multitude of metals.

Fauna

The mountains are home to a variety of species, especially along the eastern slopes that face the sea. The most notable are undoubtedly the Arnan drakes, which can be found living on both sides of the mountains and even ranging into the more barren Dust.

Cultures

Settlements

The only settlement among the mountains known to the rest of the continent at that time was the Spire. Positioned at the northern end of the Kilraxi Pass, the Spire controlled access to the lands past the Kilraxi mountains for centuries.

Archeiological evidence has since revealed multiple settlements, presumably belonging to the Mag'arna, along the southern and western slopes of the portion of the moutain range on the <Error: Name not Found> continent.

History

Based on geological dating methods, the mountains first formed circa <Error: Date not Found>, primarily via earthquakes. Volcanic activity has also contributed to the southern arm, although it seems that that began after the initial earthquakes that led to their appearance.

This does lead some credence to the Arnan myth that the mountains appeared 'overnight'. Legend states that the mountains were the result of the land deity's, <Error: Name not Found>, attempt to protect her people from northern invaders. To this day, the Arnan people revere the Kilraxi mountains as the physical embodiment of the mountain deity, <Error: Name not Found, the land deity's son and eternal protector of the Arnan peoples.
"The Kilraxi Moutains are responsible for the Mag'arna, and the Arnikari before them. We would never thrive as we have without the natural barrier they provided."
