Impact Mining Rig

"Another government contract not seen to fruition. Waste of taxpayers money, but hey, we are the one's who really reap the benefits." -Raider aboard the Impact Mining Rig
The Impact Mining Rig (or Mau Mine) is the result of poor planning and several "mishaps" that halted development. The project was sold to a private company who delayed construction for over 20 years.

Origins

During initial scans of the Perillel system a large impact crater was discovered on Mau, the first planet from Perillis. The crater and the ground beneath it were found to hold a high content of iron. The Senate contracted out the construction and establishment of a mining operation in the crater; the contract included a massive excavator drill and three refineries.

Accident Prone

The project seemed to be cursed from the beginning. The first hurdle was Mau's tidally locked orbit, which wobbled just enough to occasionally put the mine site under the intense radiation of Perillis. Before the construction crew could set up the ESG to protect the camp, there were several fatal incidents due poor consideration of the irregular spin of the planet.

NOW HIRING AT MAU MINE!

"The Mau Mine operates flawlessly under the tight fist of MineMor. I don't agree with their methods but I do admire their efficacy." -the Rogue

Abandonment

The series of mishaps didn't stop after the ESG was functioning; accidents continued to happen setting back construction months at a time. Eventually the Senate decided the costs were out-weighing the potential benefits and sold the contract to a private company. The project remained on hiatus as the contract was sold again and again, all the while full construction crews sat around getting paid to keep the site ready to go. After some years, the site was finally closed down and the contract archived.

MineMor Takeover

Around the start of the 2200s MineMor was in the process of absorbing failing companies and their contracts on the fringes of the galaxy. The Mau Mine contract was one of them, and the MineMor board decided that the project was worth investing back into. Unlike previous companies, their strict methodology saw the construction (including the restarting of the ESG) finished within a few years; the site was fully functioning by 2208.

Operation

The Mau Mine has been functioning for nearly 30 years. In 2213, the excavator drill started pulling a new, unexpected resource; gold. Since then, the crew doubled and two more refineries were built, although they continued to use only the original excavator. While the yield has continued to fall over time, the profits are still high enough that the site continues operating.

Perfect Cover

In even more recent times, the site has become a known location for the Raiders to hide. Whether the site has been acquired by force or through a deal is unknown, although MineMor would never admit it publicly even if it was providing the location willingly. It is rumored that the site is used for Raider meetings and has been under PRF surveillance for some time.
