A bedtime story for Runs on the Wind
Long ago, long before the forests came to be known as Hickerwick, nature was free and wild. Untamed and untapped, the land was rife with spirits living in harmony with the inhabitants of forest. The people of these forests relied on the spirits to guide them and lead them toward a path of plenty, and the spirits in turn welcomed their offerings. The people named their children in hopes they would emobdy the strengths of the spirits around them, and in turn the spirits bestowed gifts upon those who were named as such. And there was peace. But peace can not last forever. And those unfamiliar with the forests came and took what was not theirs to take. The spirits left much of these lands. But you, and your siblings, still have the gifts of the spirits. And the spirits are always happy to guide those who are willing to be guided. Now sleep young Eha. We hunt in the morning.
