Luaith Witchbane
Biography
Early Life
Luaith Witchbane was born to a poor human family in the eastern outskirts of the Crag around 9013 FFC. When they were two years old their parents traded Luaith for a week's worth of food to a hag coven that called the Crag their home. Raised as little more than a servant, Luaith's status as a hexblood manifested in a driftwood crown surrounding their head. Although powerless as a child, they bided their time and vowed revenge on not only the hags that imprisoned them, but also their parents that gave them up.
Magic Origins
When Luaith was out gathering the scant food or the wastelands for the coven, member of the Ducal Guard Archsorcerer Samson Cremsith happened upon them and took pity. Not wanting to rouse suspicion of the hags, Cremsith secretly taught Luaith basic spells and incantations which they picked up at a surprisingly frantic pace. However, the archsorcerer was alarmed at the ruthlessness of Luaith's spellcasting and their apparent interest and control of the death domain of magic. When Luaith stopped meeting him after years of training, Cremsith feared the worst and led a search party to investigate the hag's coven.
Upon discovering a campsite with multiple tents and a brewing cauldron, the search party found a blood-drenched Luaith standing in a circle of six bodies-worth of hag body parts. The archsorcerer took Luaith to the capital as they only muttered, "One of them got away, one of them got away, one of them got away."
Service to the Crag
Luaith continued their studies at the preeminent magical schools in the Crag, quickly accelerating to the Ducal Guard in near record pace. Showing no remorse for killing and following orders has given them a prized spot on the guard, even more so after the ascension of Grand Duke Reginald Pelk. They have honed their control of death magic to such a degree, townsfolk and other guards alike tend to avoid eye contact in order to not risk offense despite Luaith showing a general calm and even-keel disposition. Luaith was sent on a mission by the Grand Duke himself and dissappeared with the rest of the group with no bodies ever found.
