The Ivorymirror

This ancient relic of unknown origin is sacred to the Thāennites. It has been lost to time, but it was last known to have been party to the fall of Cāllen'ter during the Second Qh'énnish Rebellion under the anarch, yeath-Qh'en and his Thāennite ally archpriest Panarov of Kiel. Resembling a massive ivory trimmed looking glass continuously covered in a thick layer of hoarfrost, the Ivorymirror is a device that allows its user to contact other realms and planes in the Rift. Specifically: the unwary can use it to speak into the cold hell realm Éarhgehen’Brekk, and possibly even contact the Lord of Frost Himself, Thāen. Indeed, according to the accounts by members of the Cult of Thāen, Qh'énnsmen who were present during the sacking of Cāllen'ter, and the Òrennéii who later fought yeah-Qh'en and Panarov of Kiel, the Lord of Frost appeared and spoke to his acolyte, Panarov. Some attested to the Lord of Frost emerging from the Ivorymirror and stepping foot on the mundane world.
However, after the destruction of the yeath's tower, the dispersal of the Qh'énns loyal to Dermrhein I, and the apparent deaths of Panarov of Kiel and yeath-Qh'en, the whereabouts of the Ivorymirror were lost to time. Speculation has lead some Thāennites to conclude it was sundered, and if so, they seek to collect any shards or remains. Such trophies would be very valuable to the cult and considered sacred. Arcanist relic hunters seek the same to sell back to the Thāennites. Sects opposed to the Cult of Thāen, seek also to find any sherds of the relic, and destroy them utterly.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

When the device was invoked the hoarfrost on its surface would retreat into mist that would hover around the edges of the mammoth ivory scrimshaw. Then the image of what- or whomever was being contacted would float to the surface of the looking glass, appearing as though just under the surface of water.
The instant the connection was served the frost would recover the surface in jagged icy patterns. The Ivorymirror radiated constant cold. When used to contact cold hells, like the Lord of Frost's own realm, Éarhgehen’Brekk, the Ivorymirror's cold aura would extend out sixty feet in all directions, coating all with hoarfrost.

History

Believed to have been made from mammoth ivory carved at the site of the Lord of Frost's apotheosis, it hails from the glacial wilderness of northern Tcha in territory nominally administered by the Kiels.
It was constructed by persons unknown—although they were assumed to be devout Thāennites—over one thousand years before the Qh'énnish Ascension.
Eventually it fell into the control of the line of archpriests sired and belovèd of Thāen, culminating in the possession of Panarov. It would have passed on to the successor, Ikkhan-Idovsk, the son-brother of Archpriest Panarov of Kiel, but Panarov was slain and Ikkhan-Idovsk disappeared circa 109 QA.

Significance

It was perhaps the most valuable of all Thāennite relics. Its apparent destruction and the death of its keeper, Panarov of Kiel, shattered the Cult of Thāen. Its loss and the power vacuum created by the archpriest's death lead to decades of internecine violence that undermined the Cult of Thāen, rendering it extinct for a century in Gruthe (although it continued in Kiel and recovered there eventually).
