Chariot (Dragonborn Empire)

The Chariot is a war vehicle that is primarily used by the Imperial Guard.

Battle

In battle a small squadron of elite infantry can use chariots to engage and re-position quickly.
Emperor Toskan uses a set of chariots sized for a driver plus two passengers each, with an open back for quick dismount / remount. These can be driven between enemy formations, disgorge the passengers and retreat quickly to a safe position. The passengers then fight as they usually would. Once they have had the impact on the enemy they were seeking, or if conditions lead them to retreat, they can signal the chariot drivers to return. They can then quickly redeploy to another part of the battle field and repeat. While two of his Imperial Guard units are trained in these tactics, typically only one would be deployed with chariots. The Emperor himself may not advance with the other chariots.

Races

Chariot races are popular entertainment, held throughout the Empire, with an annual race held around the capital. The chariots used in the races use much lighter carriages, without metal armour. They still need to be strong enough to handle the occasional collision between competitors!

Processions

Military processions often feature chariots. The actual war chariots may be used, but the emperor himself will mostly likely ride in a specially constructed ornate chariot, pulled by decorated horses or other exotic beasts.

Propulsion

This vehicle is propelled by two to four horses. When the Emperor is using it in a parade, it might be pulled by up to ten horses, just to show off. A particularly ostentatious emperor might seek out exotic animals to draw their chariot.

Weapons & Armament

One use for a chariot is to carry an archer or two, allowing them to fire and withdraw quickly (or even fire while withdrawing).

Armor and defense

The carriage of the chariot is typically open at the back, with the front and sides being of wood or metal.
