A very rare condition that, in the proper environment, causes physical deformities in the fetus. The mortality rate of individuals with the condition is 93%

Causes

The cause of this condition is uncertain. It is known that it has a genetic cause, but there is no understanding at this time of what causes the phenotypical expression of symptoms of some, but not all with the genetic disorder.

Symptoms

This condition causes a disruption in the genetic coding and production of functional tissue, resulting in deformed or missing limbs, blindness or deadness, and malformed organs which are most often fatal.

Prognosis

72% of afflicted fetuses result in stillbirths or miscarriages. Of those 28%, about half live past the age of 5, and only a quarter survive into adulthood. This, 7% of those with this condition survive into adulthood.

Prevention

Currently, no true prevention is known. If it is identified witching the first trimester of gestation, the affliction can be improved with magical intervention, increasing survival rate from 7% to around 25%

History

This condition was more prevalent in the age before the collapse. It is suspected that poor hygiene and nutrition impacted the manifestation rates of the genetic condition and thus caused more infants to be born with it. In the rebuilding era, the condition is rarely seen and most often appears in nomadic tribes and city slums.

Cultural Reception

It is said that most Dragons will cull hatchlings with Wyrms-Blight to focus resources on the offspring with the best chance of survival.
