Ôlssin
A small village of roughly 350 people. Big enough to be mostly self sufficient, but small enough to escape notice. It sits at the mouth of the river Shaume, in the Farion Diocese. It sits in the beautifully forested region of Hishek, and is known for its unique woodcarving style which uses thick, straight lines and the uniquely patterned wood to give the illusion of depth and detail. The head of the town is the honorable Lord Greenhand, a minor noble with a small family estate northeast of town. The people here are generally quiet, polite, and hardworking. It is too small to support any real industry, though the fishing at the mouth of the river Shuame draws a few hobbyists in the late summer. People live off the land, a combination of a few fertile farms, fish, mushrooms and forage from the woods, and hunting in the nearby area. Economy is mostly bartering, there’s really not anywhere to spend money. Neighbors trade chickens for venison for help with their leaky roof. It’s not perfect, but the local lord keeps his nose out of it, and the farms do well enough to manage with the feudal taxes and tithes when the harvest comes around. It’s not uncommon to leave your door unlocked at night, though you may wake up to find that one of the forest’s many creatures has ruined your favorite rug when you wake up! Despite its mundane appearances, Ôlssin exists in a world with magic, and magic is woven into its foundations within the Formassin forest. Though few (if any) of the villagers are magic users, magic exists around them and they live- if not in harmony- in acceptance with it.
