Constellations
The world of Phaesion has a deep set love for the stars. Their cities are planned around the turn of the heavens, streets aligned with the path which these celestial bodies take, their prayers determined by the conjunction of the planets, the placement of the stars, and their world sprinkled with small reminders that the people of Phaesion have continually looked upwards, seeking answers, knowledge, reassurance, from the stars above.
And here, the stars look back.
The gods of this world are not singular entities, representing a single overarching domain and all its intricacies. No, here they are patterns, groups, constellations made up of individual pricks of light, seen and unseen. They spin, star entwined with star and comet and sun, a cosmic dance with no beginning or end, merely a great ring all moving to the same song. The song of Phaesion.
Constellations are gods, powerful and alien, made up of stars, manifestations of the divine and representing aspects, nuance, regions, etc, of their domain. While some shine brighter than others, all have their place within their pattern, flaring and dimming as their influence on the surface waxes and wanes. They are divine, a response to the needs of the mortals below, and their duty is to their worshippers, guiding and helping them as needed.
Their relationships are less parents to children, and more philosopher to ant. Communication with mortals is difficult, as their minds cannot perceive the messages and forms of the constellations any more than a bug can comprehend the concept of tuesday. Constellations appear in symbols, in omens, in dreams and feelings, unable to speak directly to all but the most prophetic and strange mortals.
