This research group formed (years) after
The Great Shattering. Its surface goal is to better understand how the
distortion sickness caused by
reality rifts works. They wish to learn how the potential accelerated evolution effects from the rifts could be used in a beneficial manner.
The public believes they are focused on creating better treatments and preventive measures in regards to the illness. Behind closed doors, potentially unethical methods are used as they race to strengthen the population in ways never heard of before.
Members
Evo Tech was founded by a young elven woman. Caixina is fascinated by how bodies work and how evolution changes species. Her main goal is to help elevate elves even further so that they may survive any future problems humanity may cause. She believes events like the shattering could easily happen again and just wants to at least set a precedent for future generations.
Caixina is also curious about how humans work. She doesn't appear to care about their well being, so long as they aren't causing more problems for everyone else. It's merely a side interest and project to see how their DNA compares and functions between the two species.
Her staff are a mixture of medical doctors and biologists. They also partner with some members of the
Rift Watchers.
Facilities
Their headquarters are located on (island name) and is the largest building under their control. Evo Tech also owns several smaller labs in different regions of Phaiyon. Every building looks like a standard clinic / medical research facility on the surface level. Hidden away underground are the chambers where their true experiments happen.
False Hope
Evo Tech offers to take in individuals affected by distortion sickness under the premise of offering high quality treatment not available elsewhere. They typically target people who don't have access to doctors able to handle their illness nor the funds to pay for treatment. Patients begin their stay in a clinic room to allow them to relax and develop a trust in staff.
After a couple days they are moved to one of the secluded chambers. Here a myriad of tests are conducted to study how their bodies may have changed. They then begin experiments to see how their altered bodies respond to various elements.
At the end of their ordeal, if they survive, patients have their memories altered before leaving the facility. Staff will inform them that their specific alterations are too complex or not responsive to treatment. They are usually directed to seek palliative care for however long they may have left.
Family of deceased patients are told they did everything possible, but their loved one didn't respond well to treatment. Rarely do they allow them to have the body. They are fed lies about how the remains need to be dealt with to avoid contamination of others.
Fresh Subjects
Evo Tech also experiments on non affected individuals. They occasionally put out ads in impoverished areas. The company offers payment for willing people to aid them in vague medical research.
Most tests involve intentionally subjecting these patients to a reality rift. They are usually kept mildly sedated to avoid conflicts once they realize what is happening. These subjects also receive modified memories and similar instructions upon release. Many of this specific group don't have surviving family or loved ones to deal with in the aftermath.
