Kovo

There are a lot of ruined buildings from The Great Shattering that are scattered about. People usually stray from them, but I love exploring these relics of the past. I've been told we lost a lot of technological progress since the event and I have hopes of finding at least one of these so called "computers" to tinker around with.
— A journal of a young urban explorer

When the earth split open and ejected chunks of earth into the sky, a large amount of knowledge was lost. Despite technology still existing in ruins, the software used to run them disappeared with the death of those who understood it. The loss of various data servers and storage devices also contributed to this. Kovo is both the oldest and least known about programming language.

Discovery

The software itself was never truly discovered. Only remnants of notes written in code and dusty, broken hardware remain. They were located in the ruins of a university. Present day scientists collaborate with adventurous explorers to recover what they can in order to piece together the past. They aim to utilize anything deemed helpful in their efforts to rebuild information databases.

Bits and bobs of Kovo were only discovered recently. No one knows the true name of this program; it is addressed by the presumed creator's name which was signed on some of the recovered notes. Project Decode is working on translating these papers to further understand the software. Several hard drives were discovered on ancient computers in the same building. There have yet to be successful attempts at getting any of the technology to work.

Presumed Uses

Researchers can only guess the purpose of this software without any other information. Despite the location, its true purpose is still hard to pinpoint. The ruins didn't have much salvageable material to provide further clues. Theories range from basic programming that run the computer systems to possible information database software. Since it was found in a university, Kovo could have also been an experiment or a student's final project.
