Children of the Solybor
A duty and a honor
Only the most talented arcanists between the elvish population can be selected to enter in the Children of the Solybor, a fraternity devoted to the protection, maintenance and reinforcement of the magic sentient shield called Solybor. At the beginning of the Great War of the Mages, the council of the nine observing the escalation of the fights and having notice the power-lust affecting human archmages, decided to try sending embassies to convince them to step back while they were already starting to concieve a back-up plan. The evocation of the Solybor and the retreat of the elvish population within its limit was this back-up plan, for the realization of it the fraternity was created vowed to keep the protective spell strong with a number of rituals during each star cycle. Joining the fraternity requires not only a strong magical talent but also a disposition to devote time and energy preserving the barrier, in return, members are considered among the most honoured among elves, regardless of their wealth, birthright or gender.
Origin of the fraternity
The fraternity wasn't created immediately after the evocation of the Solybor because the barrier itself was able to absorb a big part of the magical energy used during the war, but after a few century was clear that the barrier was faltering and getting weaker. The member of the council were doubtful that humans could be trusted therefore the first group of Children was selected between the most promising young elvish arcanist. The members would have been equal between them, but preminent between the elves that were called to respect their selflessness and devotion to the protection of the Elvish kingdom. An aging Children it is supposed to select a substitute before retiring, would train them in the rituals and test them to make sure no mistake was made during the selection.
