Crimson Guards
The Crimson guards are the elite military corps that, principally, take care of the security of the Chief Inquisitor and, secondarily, keep under custody defendant during long trials and execute the punishments.
Composition
Manpower
The Crimson guards, at any point, is composed by a limited number of soldiers which rarely exceeds three dozens.
Equipment
The standard uniform of the unit is composed by a reinforced gambeson and a steel chain mail covering from the neck to the knees. The legs are protected with reinforced riding boots and the head with a mail coif. On top of this armour they wear long crimson robes with conical hoods, of the same colour, that allow only the mouth and eyes to be seen. The frontal part of the robe is decorated with a white flaming heptagram, the symbol of Be Chuille's Inquisition, and around the waist is tied a simple belt of hempen rope.
Weaponry
The most common weapon used by the unit is the halberd, associated with a short sword in case of close combat. This weapon allows to block entrances, allows effective defence against mounted opponents and provides a variety of fighting solutions. If they have to execute a noble confessed-offender, instead of burning them on the stake directly, they can alleviate the punishment decapitating the convict with a Zweihander and, then, burning the lifeless body on the pyre.
Vehicles
When escorting the chief inquisitor, or one of his subordinates, on a mission they ride white palfreys also covered by a crimson caparison.
Structure
They respond directly to the Chief inquisitor and only to him. In his absence they are allowed a certain degree of autonomy, so far as the protection of the Chief inquisitor is granted.
Logistics
Recruitment
The members of the Crimson Guard are generally selected between veterans of other units. Only the most imposing individuals can be recruited and a minimum height of 1.85m is a pre-requisite of the recruitment. The ability to respond to orders without moral or ethical doubts is a fundamental mental aspect for the Guard members.
This guard, while it sounds intimidating, I imagine it can also be quite cruel, especially since the world they live in is one where people are still burned at the stake! D:
Yes, a lot of things that have been commonly accepted in the past of our real world, now would make us shake in dismay.
That's very true! An unfortunate fact.
Just to be clear, I disagree with a lot of things that are occurring in Phaldorya. There's no celebrative intention on my side and never there will.
No worries, I didn't think you approved of the evil things that occur in your worlds! I'm the same way. I have terrible things done by others in my world, but i certainly don't condone them either, or celebrate them, for that matter!
