Author's Notes

The article is very much WIP but I had to leave as I would have go over the word limit for the challenge. *I understand this title may remind you something and that's probably protected by copyright. Great article with a very detailed backstory for your character! That snake that appeared to kill her first supposed husband was a pretty useful summon. You mention that she never stayed with one master long, is it because of other snake related things happening to her masters? Could she actually not have summoned a snake each time when she was in danger, or did she not have that skill yet?   I also can imagine that the Drow would be quite taken aback by a sacrifice of theirs taking a liking to the pit of snakes :p   Btw you have put "May-leen rejected by his own community," in the start of your article but used her in the rest of the text :)

She has more than one power that she hasn't discovered fully how to use, therefore in a situation "fight or flee" she can use them without fully realizing how. I have tried to be a bit synthetic where I could but some accidents were "snake related" some others were linked with her other powers. She is one of the spontaneous casters of Phaldorya, born with powers most people, including themselves, can't understand and that the Inquisition hunts down as considered "against the natural order". The answer to your question is she may be able to, but she doesn't know how to do it.   I want to amend slightly Drow from the "wizards of the coast" version and I wanted to put some revealing conversation in quotes, but they will be added in a future version otherwise I won't get my badge! (Badge hoarder yes I am!)   Thanks for catching it, it was a typo that now has been corrected.

Ah I see that explains it why it does not always come when needed. Always nice to divert from the typical "wizards of the coast" stuff, especially for Drow.   Of course we would not want to miss out on the badges!

Great story! May-leen didn't have an easy life, and I'm really glad she and Kugon finally managed to find a place that accepts them!   "grateful for his freedom he granted May-leen to go free again" not that he really had a choice!!! >:( All those terrible people!   Only comment I have is the first time you mention Kugon's name without properly introducing him, so adding something like "her new companion" or something like that to give a bit more context would help.

I did that way because he's mentioned in a previous article, so for me it did make sense... but you have a good point! Thanks for the like and the nice words!

An interesting character. It sppears she had a hard life, really. I hope one day she truly understands her power and everything.

I hope so, there are some difficulties to get reliable informations about magic in the cities of Phaldorya but if there's a person that doesn't give up easily that's May-leen!

Interesting article! May-leen's story is fantastic. The article was a bit hard to read and could use a few paragraph breaks. The idea of a snake-charmer bard is great.

If you're seeing this, I may have used your article for my 2023 Reading Challenge.

Yes, you are absolutely right... I was unfortunately very narrow with the word count so I had to leave it as it is to not go over the 2500 words... (right now the article is 2495 words) If I don't go wrong even BBcode counts in the wordcount, so I was between a stone and a hard place :D

I love the increase in text size while hovering over a paragraph! It would still be helpful for readability to have more paragraphs in the long sections like under Moonless Night. Enjoyed reading her story.

I am aware that a re-editing will be required (once a get my badge) and I want to add one or two prose quotes to give some more context and they will break the long paragraphs... Thank you for the kind words...
