Sigil of the Iris

The Sigil of the Iris is a ring worn by the military commander of the Red Iris Militia, that allows him to seal enlistment contracts and according to various witnesses seems to confer him some magic power.

Description

The Sigil of the Iris is a dark metal ring decorated with a band of Crude gold and surmounted by a circle with the embossed militia symbol, so that it can be stamped on hot sealing wax to bind official documents. It is wide enough to be worn over a glove of arms, yet it is rumoured that it spontaneously adapts to the wearer's fingers. The presence of the band of crude gold seems to support rumours that the object is a powerful magical artefact, yet no one knows its exact magical powers.

A neighbour told me that once Lieutenant Shield came to the village to enlist some strong young boys in the militia. He couldn't find an agreement with the family of the boys on the price, suddenly he seemed to go in a trance as if receiving some mental suggestion and the sigil appeared to glow. Once he snapped back, he agreed to pay more for the boys and the family agreed to let them go.

Rarity

The item could be unique, although more similar item may exhist since it has been seen in possess of different officers of the Red Iris Militia, but no more than one single Sigil was observed at the same time.

Powers

Rumour has it that the ring possesses various magical powers, among which are ascribed a sort of protection against bullets, a power of communication perhaps with the legendary Red Iris whose identity no one knows, and the possibility of the symbol becoming incandescent on command because sometimes the sealing wax on the documents had not been heated before being branded. None of these powers have ever been confirmed by any magical or religious authority.
