Power of Brane

Call it science, call it religion. I don’t care. Humans have the ability to harness magic and use it to change the world. For those novice folk, let me try to explain how magic works: In Phasmatum, there is this particle called “M” Brane. (Most people just call it Brane). Now Brane operates on a different vibration than most particles. And not only is the planet covered in it, but there are certain beings called Plasma that are made entirely of it.
Some people think that humans have Brane within them, as well. But if we do, we have not quite learned how to access it yet. I figure in another few thousand years, humans will learn how to use their brains to access it. Until then, however, we can use the Brane around us.
The best way to do this is through our relationships with Phasma. Here’s how it works: we give them whatever it is they want (and it’s usually not something to difficult to find: maybe a bottle of rum every week or so) and in return they show off their Brane when we need it. If we do this long enough, the Phasma may be nice enough to give up a little of their Brane. Of course, adding the Brane to the body is dangerous because humans haven’t accustomed themselves to that much magical power. But luckily this planet has rocks and gemstones that are made to house Brane — then all we need to do is use those gemstones and we have a little magical ability of our own.
The Phasma can be like humans in that they have short tempers and can be a bit fickle. So for people who need a constant supply of Brane, there are workarounds. And a lot of people frown on these workarounds. Something about the Phasma's consent and all of that. But the truth is, Phasmas have an unlimited supply of Brane, so even if we extract a lot of it, it will have regenerated within a day or two. The key is to make sure the Phasma doesn’t discover your identity. If that happens, you risk a pissed off Phasma coming after you or your family and friends. For the most part, if you create a quick summoning and banishing sigil, you can extract the powers within moments and banish them before they even have a chance to realize their surroundings.

You also have to be careful not to take too much. If your gemstone can’t hold the Brane, it will explode and then all that Brane will cause chaos. Not to mention, the Phasma will have enough time to ascertain where they are and may cause a little chaos alongside the Brane in retaliation.
The last method of gaining Brane is too dark, even for me. But it’s important you know all your options — even those dangerous ones that will almost definitely get you killed — and that is possession of the Phasma itself. You can only hold onto so much Brane from a Phasma. And that power is limited. But if you’re the kind of person who needs unlimited power then you can bound a Phasma to yourself. Doing so allows you to control the Phasma or lets the Phasma become a conduit through which your power flows through. Either choice is pretty nasty. It’s said that Phasma feed on humans energy. And when they feed solely off of said humans’ desires, they become pretty twisted up. And so if a human is not careful, a Phasma's newfound desires will merge with their own and some pretty dark things can happen in the process. 
Not to mention, if the symbiosis goes on long enough, the Phasma can completely take over the human’s body. Effectively killing the soul inside and living as a physical manifestation of themselves. These leeches are nearly unkillable and are far more formidable than the Phasma that operate with only one foot in the spiritual world.
Some people say there are some Phasma who willing merge with humans for a brief time so that they can access powers previously unheard of. But I have never seen this in action and can’t believe a Phasma would care enough to do such a thing. I think this is just one of those legends that people tell to feel better about wanting to imprision a phasma for themselves.
