Earthmother's Scorn

A favourite crop of the Cult of the Earthmother, called Veng'vahel in Elven, Earthmother's Scorn is a perennial plant that grows in long tendrils much like ivy. It's a pale green, lighter than most plants, and has a number of very interesting properties. It can grow with very limited light, it seems to extract a lot of it's energy from the Myst around it, although not enough to dramatically alter the local concentration. It is very fast growing- up to 2cm a day in the right conditions, and it's tendrils have a habit of wrapping themselves around anything they encounter. The plant can grow extremely well on stone and even metal as it excretes an incredibly powerful acid that dissolves minerals to extract the nutrients it needs. This acid is quite easy to harvest and can be distilled to be even stronger, which the Children of the Earthmother then use as a weapon against manufactured objects. Indeed the plant itself is sometimes used as sabotage- attached to larger machines or on buildings a single specimen can quickly infest and even destroy.

Anatomy

Earthmother's Scorn is an evergreen climbing plant that grows to an almost unlimited size given enough time. The leaves are alternate, around 1-2cm long and are palmate with 4 lobes. The whole plant has a pale green- almost blueish, colouration. When it flowers the petals are sky blue and fluoresce very slightly in the presence of Myst. It's berries are the same shade of blue making them very easy to identify.

Genetics and Reproduction

Earthmother's Scorn flowers during Dust to mid-Earth. It is pollinated by nectar drinking insects and animals. It's berries are incredibly bitter to humans but many species of bird seek them out.

Growth Rate & Stages

In direct sunlight Earthmother's Scorn can grow up to 2cm a day, even in darkness it is capable of growing around 6cm a week.

Ecology and Habitats

Earthmother's Scorn was originally found in the rocky highlands in the north of Valsaga. It needed only a small amount of cultivation to get it to grow almost anywhere.
