Bureau of American Superhero Training, Investigation, Oversight, and Neutralization

The Bureau of American Superhero Training, Investigation, Oversight, and Neutralization (BASTION) is a federal law enforcement agency dedicated to handling superhero and supervillain activity in the United States.

Structure

BASTION is organized into functional branches and the Office of the Director, which contains mostly administrative offices. An executive assistant director manages each branch. Each branch is then divided into offices and divisions, each headed by an assistant director. The various divisions are further divided into sub-branches, led by deputy assistant directors. Within these sub-branches there are various sections headed by section chiefs. Section chiefs are ranked analogous to special agents in charge. The Office of the Director serves as the central administrative organ of BASTION, providing staff support functions (such as finance and facilities management) to the five function branches and the various field divisions. The office is managed by the associate director, who also oversees the operations of both the Information and Technology and Human Resources Branches.

Public Agenda

Currently, BASTION's top priorities are:
  1. Protect the United States from supervillain attacks
  2. Protect the United States from major superhuman-related crime
  3. Investigate cases of and neutralize vigilante superheroes
  4. Provide official training and oversight to active superheroes
  5. Support federal, state, local, and international partners
  6. Upgrade technology to enable, and further, the successful performance of its missions as stated above

Assets

Due to the nature of their work, BASTION has access to a significant amount of advanced technology, most of it for the purpose of tracking down and neutralizing the threat of rogue superhumans. In addition to their regular agents, they also possess several Mobile Task Forces whose personnel are all specially trained in dealing with specific threats or situations that exceed the operational capacity and/or expertise or regular field agents.

Super Operative Squads

In addition to basline and superhuman agents, BASTION also utilizes specialized squadrons composed of specially trained government sanctioned superheroes. These Super Operative Squads are called in to deal with high-risk or high-threat-level situations, up to and including on a national level. BASTION currently utilizes ten seven-member squads: the Bunker Busters, the Matadors, the Cloudmakers, the Highballs, the Daisy Cutters, the Hornets, the Javelins, the Thunderbolts, the Vipers, and the Avengers*. Each is named after the members of the original Super Operative Squad, one of the nation's first government sanctioned superhero teams.
*Not to be confused with the fictional comic book superheroes of the same name.
