Flamerule 4: Winter Storm Investigation
General Summary
We (Alex II, Taniel, Lorwaith, Dimble) set out for the storm. We decide to go over the bridge which charges an unfair toll to a party on such an important duty. Begrudgingly we pay the toll. We head towards Thedon seeking to inform them we will be in the area or at best acquire information or aid they may have to offer.
-1 GP for everyone to Joseph for bridge toll.
We detect that the storm is apparently magical from many elements. There’s a glowing item on the ground of unknown type and origin. There are large hoof-like prints in the snow which lead into the storm.
We found a doll that is torn up. Lorwaith runs around with it and nothing happens. Then he swan dived into the snow and he disappeared. Dimble jumps into the snow tied off and immediately tugs twice to signal he is ok.
I follow into the storm, after transitioning through a bright light I see a figure in a brown robe as well as my companions again. The snow is lighter, not a fierce blizzard. There is a town visible now and the figure in the robe is walking away from the town. He introduces himself as Knecht Ruprecht. He describes the evil as being chained on arms and neck. He describes it as a great evil.
He said the monster has been many years since he came. The monster has taken children. He gave us a map to head to a workshop.
I tried to get him to tell us a story. Our companions stopped me. Then Taniel gave him a rock blessed to smell of pies. He tried to eat it. Dimble had to compress him in a hug to get him to spit it out.
We follow the map. Eventually out of the snow forms 4 figures. They are winged with well defined features as if made of ice but clearly humanoid. I attempt to greet them as friends in Celestial. Dimble says we are friends in common and moves up to me. Taniel on the other hand draws his crossbow and wordlessly fires a crossbow, missing wildly as his bolt flies off into nothing. The shot was just as awful as his own judgement. In response one of the figures starts to approach Dimble. Upon noticing the movement Dimble unleashes a firebolt striking the being. The being completes it approach and misses a swing at Dimble.
Another figure approaches Alex and exhales frost breath at Dimble and Alex. Given little warning neither is able to fully dodge and they each are grazed by an icy blast of breath from the creature. Another of the 4 creatures approaches Taniel and Randy again with the same results. The fourth beast comes forward and slashes at me but it’s swing does nothing as it grazes my armor.
Lorwaith moves back and strikes with an eldritch blast severely damaging the creature. Since I noticed that these creatures clearly have evil intent I draw a greatsword and swing at the nearest creature. It bursts into shards of ice. The shards of ice cut through me, a lingering reminder of the creature's presence. Dimble smashes another of the beasts with a thunder gauntlet injuring it. Taniel pulls up his crossbow, now taking careful aim and striking one of the beasts.
One of the beasts makes a good attempt but it’s claws are unable to pierce my armor. Another swings haplessly at Dimble swinging wide. Yet another swings wide at Lorwaith another miss. The beast in front of Dimble is hit by Lorwaith with an Eldritch blast. I swing at the beast in front of me with a Greatsword striking true and it seems to be almost dead. Dimble strikes the beast in front of him and ducks away quickly. The beast explodes almost harmlessly and it’s icy shards seem to barely phase Dimble. Taniel stabs the crossbow into a beast and somehow the bolt goes wide.
The beasts swing at us and miss. Clearly angered as they scream nearly incoherently with rage. Another eldritch blast from Taniel is quickly followed by a strike of my greatsword. Dimble throws a firebolt at the beast furthest away who explodes and again his shards barely phase Randy who stands by. Taniel fires a bolt at the creature nearest me, it explodes and I expertly dodge most of its remnants.
Upon the end of combat we go to the edge of the clearing. We journey uphill shortly and find a building seemingly guarded by many small creatures that we cannot make out or identify.
Will approaches the building in front of us. One of the small creatures notices him. He blows a whistle and the creatures gather, they seem to be toy soldiers.
Two of them have disappeared as we discussed how to approach this situation. Eventually Taniel hit one after feeling threatened. They attacked back. I move behind the one nearest me and with a single swipe of my Greatsword I strike it down in a single blow. The next closest moves in close to me and stabs me with a bayonet dealing a surprisingly significant amount of damage. The last soldier left attacks Taniel by firing what we presumed to be a toy gun. Lorwaith fires his crossbow back at one of the toy soldier creations and destroys it. Dimble swipes at one and misses. He follows with an Eldritch Blast and destroys the last Soldier.
After gathering ourselves following the conflict we enter the building. We set eyes upon what appear to be Daemon Imps and one Monster, clearly the leader of the group. A horned beast (Write up a description of Krampus here). As soon as we are noticed by these vile beasts of ill intent the room is plunged into darkness. As much as it pains me to say so this creature must die.
I move in and the room smells horrid with evil. Before I can react the largest goat-like menace appears beside me and stuffs me into a sack. After a time in my prison I heal myself and near immediately I feel as if the sack is dropped on the floor. I crawl out of the sack, immediately rise and strike my attacker as I yell “DO YOU KNOW HOW KRAMPED IT WAS!!!!” I strike him true with my greatsword. The beast lashes with a chain against Lorwaith. The swing misses and our assailant disappears. He reappears next to Lorwaith and grapples him. Taniel expertly fires a crossbow so as to strike the beast and not the one of our party entrapped. Dimble swings with a gauntlet and misses the beast. Lorwaith struggles against the beast and is unable to escape from the grip. Eventually it stuffs Lorwaith into a sack, but not before I strike it many times with my greatsword imbued with holy energy.
I completely blanked… fuck.
Dimble killed Krampus with fire. As he dies the boxes start making audible noises. Taniel is helped up by Lorwaith. We found a halfling, elf, and human child in boxes. They claim to have been taken captive and that there were more. We found some bones in the firepit with cut marks on them. We can find no more remains but do stumble upon a few artifacts which may help us identify the lost children.
We lead the children back the village of Theoden after finding that is where they are from. When we leave the area of snow it seems to dissipate behind us without a trace. We stay for a day at the village of Theoden to attend the internment and last right of the missing children as well as return those surviving. Then return to New Gambit the next day. We give the news to Dionara on our return. We get 200GP from her.
We talk to Kaylee (I can’t spell her name) and she’s greateful. She gives us another 200 GP.
We get 450 XP in total per person.
80 GP Per person and 80 GP for Town Bank.
