Silver Elves or Kirthians
a hybrid of the High Sidhe (Tall Faeries) and humans
The Swamp Elves
The exceptions to this are the swamp elves. Swamp elves all appear female and can not have offspring except with a human male. At one time (perhaps this is where the earth myth of the Amazon came from) perhaps human men were little more than slaves to the silver elves, but nowadays, aside from not being allowed to rule or work work in the swamp guard that human males who choose to live in Kirth are free to come or go as they choose and to wear clothes and work non military jobs, own property and pursue their own interests. Marriage is not a thing Swamp Elves understand, a swamp elf and a human male may live together, may even be exclusive but at whatever point that one of them wishes live or love someone else it is expected that they should be allowed to do so. Jealousy is frowned on and possessiveness as treated as scandalously as the idea of "owning" another person but of course that doesn't mean that it never happens. Swamp elves also look very distinctive with their eyebrows growing up into long antennae looking things and vestiges of useless dragonfly style wings. These wings are often amputated because they get in the way and break so easily. Some nobles who do not have to do hard work keep their wings and even adorn them, still any swamp elf that has maintained his wings for a long period of time may find them becoming ratty and torn. The Swamp elves built the City of Kirth, called the jewel of the swamp. Kirth is the capital and largest city in the Kirth Swamp. It is a beautiful, shining city built on what was once nothing more than a fetid swamp.
Okay, at this point, the Swamp Elves appear to be more closely related to some form of Faery than the Elves themselves. I would be interested to find out why these Elves have wings when the others don't. Also, why are they so racially different from the other types of Elves?
Actually they are (related to the Faye) but neither the humans nor elves suspect this. The most common explanation is that the Swamp elves are a more primitive elf, maybe from a time when elves and Humans could interbreed.
Swamp Elves are actually not related to elves at all, but a hybrid human and Faery. The Faye are infertile, and swamp elves do not have many young, and they are often still born, that is why swamp elves, must have human lovers occasionally, or their ability to bare young deteriorates. Swamp elves and regular elves and Humans, do not know this history, which happened millions of years ago, and no one is sure why Swamp elves are so different. Kirth was the first truly hybrid city, though it’s influence seems to be mostly elven. The Swamp Queen must have a human mate or her children will not be recognized. The position falls from mother to daughter, or to the queen’s sister’s daughter if she has none of her own. There has never been a Swamp king, though most other elven cities recognize the regency whether it falls to a son or a daughter, always the eldest, of course. No one knows the Swamp Queens name, or the names of her daughters, this is from a forgotten Faye weakness having to do with true names. Swamp elf DNA (for lack of a better term) is stronger than human DNA and in any pairing between a human and a swamp elf, the child with look like a swamp elf. This is the only situation where marriages between humans and elves are common, and no stigma is placed on it, at least not in the Northern States where most of the swamp elves live. They are not as numerous as the other kinds of elves (if they hadn’t already been gleaned by their low fertility rate.)
