Sithar
Yuan- Ti for D & D build purposes, the Sithar are a snake-like people who live in the Southlands (as named by those in the North). Ambitious and amoral they are so involved in infighting that they have not yet looked to other lands to conquer. They are not currently a player race.
A large city can be found about three days journey from the southern mountains. It is ruled by nine families, the Monarch changes from one family to the next and ascension to the throne frequently happens by assignation. The Sitar themselves often appear to lack affectionate family feelings and stay in their family groups mostly for protection from other family groups. This is not true of everyone but in The Great City this appears to be more a thing. The families proceed to rule in an order according to the color of their family crest Red, Blue, Purple, Green, Black, White, and Teal. The exceptions are Gold and Magenta. Gold is the color adopted by the current ruling family and Magenta is the color of the recently disposed family. When the current ruling Queen is killed her family will move into the Magenta Family houses and the new ruling family will move into the palace leaving the family that was formally in the magenta houses to move into (In this case) The Red Family's houses for two cycles, while the reds rule, and while the reds are in disgrace, by then the greens will be ruling, whether the family currently living in the reds houses moves to green is not well known because I (Dwarf researcher) have not lived long enough to see three changes of power yet.
The Current ruling family is the Saludi, the next ruling family will be from the Salum (Red) family, and then the Saluka (Blue) and the Salvi (Purple) and then the Sashun (Black) family then the Samise (white) family then the Saruku (Teal) family and lastly, in a state of disgrace is the Sumil (Magenta) family. This implies to me that the original family colors were as those, but no family will admit to being the first Magenta Family and all the families claim to be the original Gold Family, but clearly neither can be true.
