Aventi Grand Cathedral

A great looming marble building with a large cobalt colored dome peaks out high above the city skylines. Aventus' Grand Cathedral has stood the test of time as one of the oldest buildings of the civilization. Built by the first generation of Aventi, the building has been a beacon of joy and hope. Hope that one day, the prosperity and peace of Aventus will also be achieved by other nations. The Grand Cathedral is a place of worship to the Lord of Water, Istishia. It is said that the Aventi achieved their maritime supremity because this deity grants his favor to their people. All Aventi worship Istishia and strive to show the world the beauty and might of the waters, while in return their ships seem to be supernaturally durable. Their master sailors and legendary marines seem strangely empowered when manning their vessels and the ships never seem to run into any storms. Wind always blows in the right direction and at the right strength to get to their destination quickly. These are all rumored to be the benefits of a complete kingdom built around worshipping a powerful ocean deity.
The turret high on top of the dome is a sacred place where only the clerics and priests most devoted to their faith may enter. This place has a great view of the skies as well as the ocean itself. It is a place of communion, divination and, though rarely, ascension. It is where the Aventi high priests read the skies and seas for signs from their patron. The stories say that Istishia shows his mood through the swirling currents and waves, and high priests trained and devoted for a large part of their life are able to read these signs. Through this ritual, the Aventi ship captains can decide the ideal boarding schedule for their journeys. When a devoted Aventi passes, their body is blessed in the high turret with a religious ritual. The Aventi use this ritual to thank the individual for their faith, loyalty and services.
Inside the Grand Cathedral are many magical and nonmagical waterworks such as meditation ponds, sacred fountains and small ridges transferring water across the ground in patterns of Aquan symbols. There are statues and pillars, small booths for prayer and also some greenery. There is an ancient tree in the eastern wing of the chapel, stretching high and wide. Some of the water emits a gentle blue or white glow, illuminating parts of the building after sunset.
Besides the rituals after Aventi pass away, the Cathedral is also used for celebrational ceremonies when a newborn has joined the Aventi family and when a young marine takes up armaments in the name of Istishia as a paladin or cleric. Their training takes place in the Academy and when the young ones are ready to take the Cerulean, they are blessed with celebrational ritual to strengthen their faith.
