Forager's Kit

More a collection of related items than a single item, forager's kits are nevertheless commonly-encountered and seldom separated into their constituent parts.   Forager's kits are exactly what they sound like - a kit that facilitates the collection of useful things from nature.   The exact composition varies wildly, though. For example, a peasant's kit might contain:
  • A sharp knife
  • A sack
  • A small clay bottle
  • Some string or leather thongs to tie bundles of twigs or sprigs of herbs together
Whereas one belonging to an herbalist, alchemist, or professional adventurer might contain:
  • A wooden box surrounded by a leather harness to carry the constituent parts
  • A rolled-up leather carrier containing the following:
    • A pair of scissors
    • An assortment of various-sized knives and needles
    • A set of glass vials (often with inlaid wire mesh to help avoid breakage) of various sizes
    • A heavy, hollowed-out spike made from bone with a metal tip (for collecting sap from shocksap trees)
    • A small saw (usually flexible and sharp enough to strip bark off of useful trees)
    • Two or three chisels
    • A small hammer
  • A mortar and pestle
  • A small hatchet
  • A collection of different-sized sacks
  • A ball of heavy twine
  • Vials of clean water and distilled alcohol
  • A heavy, pre-soaked cloth in an airtight bottle to be used as a fume mask
  • A small balance scale and set of weights
  • A set of heavy gloves
And there is a wide spectrum in between. Almost no one who lives near the forests doesn't have one at all, however. Though some of the forests are dangerous, the presence of food, medicinal and alchemical resources make having one at hand a very wise idea, and basically everyone is aware of that fact.
