HADRIAN vs. The Wild Hunt
The caretaker of The Endless Tower came unexpectedly into conflict with The Wild Hunt when a group of terrified humans fleeing from The Hunt's hounds inadvertently crossed into the five-mile influence zone around The Endless Tower.
The incident began when a group of travelers, outside on the road after sunset, caught the notice of The Wild Hunt. The Hunt sent a group of four hounds to pursue and devour them.
The travelers ran for their lives, entering the Influence Zone around The Endless Tower.
HADRIAN's sensor bank picked up the humanoids and sent a pair of surveillance drones to investigate. It quickly determined that they were being pursued by a pack of predators and deployed nonlethal distraction munitions (noisemakers and flashing lights) to deter them. When the pursuing beasts were undeterred by the countermeasures, HADRIAN escalated to combat munitions, promptly blasting one of the hounds to pieces with an autocannon from a heavy defense drone.
The remaining hounds scattered and charged the drone from all sides. They brought it down, but lost two more of their number in the process. At this point The Wild Hunt realized there was an actual dangerous opposition force in play and dispatched several riders, another pack of hounds, and some harrying hawks.
What followed was a pitched battle between the forces of the Wild Hunt and HADRIAN. The AI managed to gain and keep the upper hand early, but both sides suffered heavy losses before the Wild Hunt realized it could withdraw its forces past the edge of the Influence Zone and hastily did so. The humanoid travelers where whisked away from the fighting by a transport drone in the early stages of the battle and escaped out the far side of the Influence Zone while the fighting was in progress. The Wild Hunt made a few additional direct assaults on The Endless tower in the following days, but was rebuffed. The incident marks one of the few times the fey and the First Age AIs came into contact with one another.
