The Stormcallers

The Stormcallers are an anarchist sect that reveres and draws power from an entity they call The Stormlord. As their legends go, this entity destroys empires and hierarchies through disasters and extreme weather, carrying off the souls of heroic individuals to occasionally re-enter the world.   Stormcallers are anarchists of the "mutual aid" and "stateless society" variety rather than the "burn it to the ground" variety. They support each other and take responsibility for the wellbeing of their neighbors. Most of them are originally from one of the three "great empires" of the Shengalvan Archipelago (Stelavorn, Karkovia, or Vanorax) and found the way of life in their previous homeland to be stifling. Most Stormcallers are from Karkovia or Stelavorn, as Vanorax makes it very hard for people to leave.   Stormcallers tend to be hospitable people and their communities are open to newcomers, but they resist the idea of being added back into something larger with everything that is in them. They also tend to be wary of undermining, but will often allow even a known spy to live among them for a while because they are confident that living without a state in a close-knit community will win skeptics over in time.   A typical Stormcaller village is a few hundred individuals (usually 200-500) and they favor remote areas. In the Shengalvan Archipelago, that typically means the southern island where the temperatures are cooler.   The Stormlord is a warlock patron, and powers granted by it are strongly focused on severe weather effects. (The Stormlord appears in COFSA.) Those desiring these abilities go through a harrowing and dangerous trial of exposure to severe weather as part of the process, but it is often worth it. These magically-invested Stormcallers are the guardians of their people, and can be formidable adversaries to those seeking to subjugate or harm them.
