Stargeli Viewing

Stargelies are rare creatures that only come out at night. They have gelatinous, translucent bodies, no bigger than a child's hand, which glow and float through the night air. Most are yellow, but blue, white, purple, and pink variations have been spotted. Due to their delicate bodies, it is advised that they not be touched. Not much is known about Stargelies. They are an elusive, timid species that can only be observed on cool nights during the Spring and Summer months, which makes it hard to learn much about them. It is not known where they go in the daytime or in Fall and Winter. Stargelies travel in large groups and appear more frequently in locations near lakes, rivers, and seas, this is believed to be for safety and to protect their fragile bodies from drying out. Many believe this creature to be nothing more than a myth meant to give comfort and wonder to young children because of just how rarely they've been observed; however, Dr. Calpus W. Higgin proved the existence of the small creatures roughly 152 years ago. The species has been spotted only once since - 138 years ago. It is their elusivity, appearance, and gentle nature that inspire wonder in all who seen them and compel people to continue telling stories of Stargelies to their friends, families, and neighbors. ... One summer night, Rielle snuck off to the palace library to read some of her favorite books. She sat down in her usual spot by one of the big windows, out of view from the majority of the rest of the library, not that anyone was there, and began reading in the pale moonlight. The night sky was clear. And, though there weren't many stars out, the moon was full, illuminating the words on the pages of her books. Everything was still and quiet in the tranquility of night - just the way she liked it. It was after midnight when she finally stopped reading. A quarter till one? She couldn't be sure. Rielle picked up her books after marking the page she'd stopped on and moved to put them up, but something caught her eye: a faint yellow glow on the bookshelf in front of her. She turned, confused, to look out the window looking for the source. When she did, she saw hundreds of tiny, yellow Stargelies drifting toward the palace. Rielle quickly placed her books up and ran back to the window, unlatching the lock and opening it to get a better look at the wonder before her.
