Gennybéka

Description

Gennybéka, literally translated as 'pusfrogs', are amphibians of up to 20 centimeters in length that live in the Swamps of Vörövisz. They share many features with other amphibians and particularly other types of frogs, such as the ability to allow oxygen to pass through their highly permeable skin.   What sets this type of frog apart from others though, are its sore-like protrusions on its skin. These are actually exocrine glands that store a particular hallucinogenic substance. When threatened, the pusfrog bursts one of its sores and sprays its predator with the fluid contained within. This causes powerful visual and auditory hallucinations that are highly disorienting. Notably victims have reported blurred vision and the sensation (or even sight) of small vermin crawling beneath their skin. It is not uncommon for a victim to have scratched their skin open to 'release' the vermin they think is there.   They are sometimes caught to harvest their hallucinogen, but due to the unpleasant effect it is used more as a weapon than a pleasure drug and thus not as marketable. It is also difficult to harvest as a distressed pusfrog may just burst all of its hallucinogenic sores.

Intelligence and Behavior

Like most frogs, the gennybéka are social creatures that group together in knots. As they grow up they tend to explore around more, but they always return to the pond which they inhabited as tadpoles when it is time to mate. Parents do not particularly care much for their young, but usually a pond where young are produced is inhabited by enough of their species that they are somewhat protected.
