Description
The
Bonelands are home to many beasts, magical and otherwise. One creature that finds itself exceptionally attracted to the place is the kardcsiga, also known as sword slug. These amorphous, slug-like creatures can manipulate and consume metals, and they find themselves drawn to the high iron content of the ironsand in the Eltóriasók.
However, while they can consume metal, they cannot derive all their mineral needs from it. They are also carnivores and dangerous predators. Their ferromancy allows them to push and pull pieces of metal, and warp the ironsand around them into natural barriers or traps. They can detect the metal around them out to a fair distance and then attract or repel it as they please. The metal shards that stick to its body allow it additional protection, but can also be used to create a dangerous storm of razor-sharp material around them. This however does leave them vulnerable as the metal no longer protects the skin.
With the rise of humans under the guidance of the Divinities, the slugs have found a new favorite prey. People are often reliant on weapons and armor, which the kardcsiga can magnetically repel to deflect strikes, or attract to ensnare prey before biting down with their sharp teeth. They often hide a little below the ironsand, using it as cover while their four eye stalks stick out above the sand to watch for prey.
Their teeth are prized objects, as they can be fashioned into tools or small arms that can easily cut through other metal. They are also the envy of every collector, as kardcsiga are exceedingly rare creatures to find, and tough to take down as well.
Intelligence and Behavior
They are single-minded creatures that simply trudge around and fall on the prey that presents itself to them. They do use ambush tactics as described above, but they are not smart enough to adjust their tactics when things go south, or to properly distinguish between humans based on dress. They are usually solitary creatures, traveling alone or in small packs consisting of their mate and possibly children or siblings.
