Fallen City of Nabopalassar
Nabopalassar was the capital of the ancient lamia empire in what is today called the Whispering Ruins in the Scorched Expanse. It was ruled by Queen Echidna, the last in a prominent family of lamia nobles.
The lamia's societal structure was a strict caste system. Serpent-tailed lamia nobles were at the top of the proverbial pyramid. A majority were the leonine lamia commoners. Below them were lamia half-spawn, hybrid creatures who acted as servants and lackeys to full-blooded lamia. Humanoids taken as slaves were not even citizens, instead being treated merely as property.
This empire fell apart suddenly in -539 ME. All of the lamia nobles disappeared overnight, resulting in the rest of the population descending into chaos. Eventually, the lamia were scattered across the desert where they've wandered until present day. The cause of this sudden collapse of the civilization is still unknown.
The city was divided into four main districts: the Common Quarter, the Slave Quarter, the Noble Quarter, and the Royal Gardens. Each was denoted by a statue in roughly the center of each district. The Common Quarter was represented by a drake or lizard statue and the Slave Quarter had a towering pillar with a pair of bulls on top. There was a large pool and water feature in the Noble Quarter, surrounded by a statue of a lamia noblewoman bearing an urn. Lastly, the Royal Gardens were identified by a winged lion creature called a lamassu.
Other major landmarks in Nabopalassar included the Great Promenade, with ran through the city from east to west. It was flanked by statues of lamia warriors. There was also the massive Tower of Graz'zt, which served as a combination dungeon and temple to a demon lord, in the very center of the city. On the southern end of Nabopalassar was the Grand Ziggurat, the living quarters of the lamia monarch. This five-tiered palace housed the queen and her entire retinue and staff, including slaves. At the city's northern edge was the Palace of Ecstasies, a bath house used for all the bodily and carnal pleasures that the lamia wished to indulge in.
