Candle Men
The Candle Men are a race of sentient humanoid creatures composed entirely of uncolored wax. These creatures all have simple features and wicks. Candle Men are social creatures that are often found in groups. They seem to favor abandon locations like old forts, abandons road houses, and forgotten hamlets though they have also been known to gather to smaller structures like bridges, campsites, and watch posts.
They are generally violent to travelers in there territory and will attack with a dangerous level of strategy and cunning. Their tactics and use of terrain are often enough to take on even travelers with armed escorts. Candle Men take the weapons and armor of their victims to better equip themselves for future encounters, they even take helmets from their victims though none has ever been seen wearing a helm. Signs that a Candle Man attack has occurred neatly organized piles of valuables and trade goods in a destroyed camp sites with all of the bodies, every scrap of armor, all weapons missing, and any live stock or other animals ignored . Wax flecks may be strewn about if their was a particularly viscous struggle.
All candle men have a lit wick protruding from their bodies most often from the top of the head but occasionally from a shoulder. The flame on these wicks dance , dim and flare up unnaturally and it is theorized that they are used for communication amongst themselves. Despite their lit wicks candle men avoid open flame as drawing to close causes them to begin to melt similar to a normal candle. They also avoid attacking in heavy rain as the water disrupts their lit flame and seems to make it difficult for them to communicate. While candle men may cross shallow streams they will not wade any deeper than their knees. They may take up residence in or around a beached abandons boat along some back water river there are no recorded attacks on any boats that are not beach or otherwise moored close to shore.
Where they come from, their goals, and how they reproduce are unclear. One running theory is that they use the rendered fats of their victims to craft new members of their race. These macabre theories remain unsubstantiated though the fact that their seem to be more candle men after an attack does lend credence to the theory.
