The Law of Stone
"The Law of Stone is absolute, and above all. The law shall never be destroyed, under penalty of death, and the family shall rebuild it if need be. Only true royalty may truly destroy a law, but they too shall suffer death. Any law to be passed into society must be carved into the walls of the city itself. Each one must be written in the ancient runes of the dwarves, the language true to our ancestry. Each letter must be twenty feet tall, and ten feet wide. Funding for the law is only provided by those who create the law themselves, funding not from the country, or city it resides in, but from the lawmakers who pass it themselves."First put to the chisel in Popetiel 10, 50, Geburtszwerg , the law of stone is the ultimate law within dwarven society. It was the divine requirement of Olänn to put the law to stone, to ensure the survival of the law, and the judgement of the people for years to come.
History
First coming to the new dwarven king of Kingdom of Steisen as a religious awakening. He single handedly chiseled Olänn divine command into the stone, finishing his work after nearly two years of constant labor, forming the kingdom that his family came to rule. This devotion brought separate mining communities from all over Grott to start in the traditions of the stone, and grow the kingdom as a species, instead of individuals.
Since its original inception, a great effort has been taken to ensure the cost of new laws remains as a small impact on the community, and on the laws of Steisen as a whole.
Execution
As explained in the original law of stone itself, the lawmakers who make the law must pay out of pocket for a specialty crafstman to be hired, and brought to the individual cities where the stonework must be placed, to ensure that it is followed properly. A number of grand masons have risen and fallen, but the duty usually depends on what some consider the most honorable and stalwort of Mountain Dwarf houses in Steisen. Most agree that the patron of House Steelwerner is the only one capable throughout the kingdom of performing the task. an honor that the Steelwerners do not take lightly, as they treat it as a religious practice, channeling the gods themselves into their work, blessing each letter upon its completion.
