Wood Working
Wood working is a regulated technology.
While magic can handle the majority of work that needs to be done with wood, the hand-carving of wood for simple tasks and items remains a specialzied and sought skill. Hand-worked wood can be very expensive and fetch high prices.
Wood working is only allowed using simple technology (a single blade), and then only with a license provided by the national licensing board. To obtain a license, aptitude for carving must be demonstrated. Practice in this skill is only obtained under the direct supervision of an existing licensed wood worker.
After the Guines Edict, wood working initially was a forbidden technology. This changed roughly thirteen years later, as the demand for actual hand-crafted wood erupted after the elite class bought up the majority of freely available pieces that already existed.
