"Sergei Aleksandr Krupin," when the aged man bowed, his head nearly touched the snow, "It's no good to be travelling alone out here."
"We'd best be on our way..." the hunter said, steering me away with his hands on my shoulders. With deceptive speed, Sergei cut us off.
He held the doors shut, "My friend, this was not an offer," he said, "You'd do well to respect your elders, no?"

Few people know where Sergei Aleksandr Krupin came from. One day, a hunting party found him wading in the snow, wearing only a robe. The rest was left to the Beastwilds and he continued his travels, just as disregarding of his past as the strangers who met him.
Nowadays, he makes the appearance as a humble man of few means, wanting to see the world after his retirement from a business he never specifies. He joins a merry band of adventurers, learning from them and hardly ever providing in return. Once he's found to be a scoundrel, he travels on the wind alone and sets out anew.

Identifying Characteristics

When people are asked to identify him (usually to charge him for a crime), they usually specify that he has "a punchable face" or something similar. His silhouette is recognised by his long, thin legs and unnervingly large hands.

Special abilities

Can move very fast and use magic. No one is sure of the extent of his abilities, but they were enough to win him the title of Archmage in the Institute of Wizards.

Personal history

Soon, he was swept off the road as a vagabond. Those who use magic are sent to Apprentice Centres, where they await a Wizard University to register and take in potential apprentices. He was soon picked up by Oveus and sent to apprentice under him.

Education

He learned under Oveus about being a wizard and how to better use his magic. Other knowledge, he's gained on the road and through research.

Employment

He's used to making his living as a pickpocket and scrounging whatever he could get. He continues making small livings like this, refusing to get a proper job or to ask people for money outright.
When he was in the Wizard University, he was taken in under the wizard Oveus as an apprentice. Here, he learned how to use his magic properly, but also earned a meagre wage by doing chores and maintenance for the master wizard and his colleagues at the university.
His occupation now is a constant traveller, moving from place to place and taking what knowledge or materials he wants to possess.

Failures & Embarrassments

Sergei was cast out from his band of criminals because his "magic tricks" were actual magic rather than common misdirection as he had described it. Using magic was banned in Novoska's thieves' guild, so there was no honour when they threw him into the streets.

Mental Trauma

The Wizard Universities are poorly regulated and a master wizard is allowed to treat their apprentices as they please, so long as the fellow, graduated wizards make no issue of it. Sergei has never made mention of what happened in his time at the university.

Motivation

Sergei is primarily motivated by his fickle boredom. He sees the world as his oyster to take advantage of as he pleases. When things go sour, he simply moves to a place where no one knows him. Even amongst wizards, he's seen as a liability.

With his education at the Wizard universities, he's gifted in most matters concerning magic. Since wizards pursue most forms of knowledge, Sergei is also aware of many political, astrological and scientific matters. He's also aware of the cultures of places he's travelled and able to speak in most languages.

Though it's one of his hobbies, Sergei is terrible at cooking. He cheats by using his magic when no one is looking.

Likes

Sergei is easily impressed by a good pancake and chefs who make them. He also likes cooking and bakery himself, so he volunteers to cook for most occasions.

Sergei's mind is very open to new experiences, knowledge and points of view, he is curious and an explorer. Though he has selfish intentions behind it, he's also a good listener and waits before passing full judgement until he knows someone for a while.
He has an appreciation for almost everything, even if it doesn't prove useful for his own personal goals.

He is very selfish and is ignorant of other people's thoughts or feelings. Engrossed in the mannerisms of the universe at large, a small argument or losing a few friends matters little to him.

His hygiene is suspiciously immaculate. He'll wash at least two times a week and is particularly devoted to the fingernails and his hair.
He doesn't keep his toenails in such good condition. His feet are said to smell terrible. Since he puts his feet up on people's table very often, these stories are easy to gather.

His travels are made most interesting for Sergei by the people he encounters. He'll become friends with whoever will accept him, including those who generally hate wizards. 
Though he's always travelling, Sergei loves to keep in contact with people he's met or their families and shows up unexpected to catch up with them.

There is no other religion to him than the worship of knowledge. No matter how this is obtained, the pursuit of knowledge is always for the good of the universe and its progress. Especially when he keeps his unknown revelations to himself.

His confidence and manners are unshakeable. Seemingly unfazed by the struggles of normal people, he either doesn't care or understand when he's caused offence. Neither does he seem easy to anger. 
Sergei loves to hang around people, even if they loathe dragging him along to wherever he insists on going. With smooth words and perhaps a few bribes, this hate often becomes respectful reluctance.
