    The Foundation of Sanctuary
    Founding

As it became apparent that the seawalls around major cities of the American northeast were unsustainable and prone to collapse, the population overwhelmingly migrated inland. To organize the flow of the population, the town of Hazleton, Pennsylvania was chosen as a new starting point for a large-scale city to house the populus.   As such, the city of Sanctuary was founded at this location, further inland and far above the encroaching ocean waves.

    Dissolution of the Tessel Corporation

The massive Tessel Corporation monopoly was forced into dissolution in 2065 as one of the last federal acts of the since defunct United States.   The assets were distributed across a dozen different new entities. However, two of these organizations: Dynamik Corporation and Atomik Corporation, eventually managed to consolidate most of the resources and remnants of the former Tessel Corporation after the country's dissolution.

    Collapse of the United States
    Political event

As seawalls collapsed throughout many important coastal cities, surviving inland cities and municipalities grew increasingly unstable within the political landscape of the nation. The city of Sanctuary, in an unprecedented and public statement, declared independence from the United States on the 8th of January 2068, with many large corporations in the city boasting armies, collectively powerful enough to defend their claim. Within the next four months, most surviving cities, or administratively strong regions, followed suit and on the 1st day of June 2068, the president gave a final public speech, declaring the dissolution of the nation.

Creation of the Central Admin Board

The Central Admin Board, now more commonly called the Old Council, was conceived as a short era of relative post-crisis stability was coming to a close. It was to be a council seated by the 100 largest corporations in the city, rotating in and out, who collectively were to finance and run core city services.   Within a few years, the experiment flourished as a major success in many regards, and the city was growing at an exponential pace, with the council funding many huge undertakings. Life in the city was undergoing a gradual but substantial transformation.

    Creation of the Executive Committee

A few years after the dissolution of the Central Admin Board, the new and reformed Executive Committee was officially established. In relation to its quasi-egalitarian predecessor, the new committe was not to be a rotating board, but instead a fixed constellation of 18 megacorporations who would control the city. Even though the new board lacked the fine-tuned efficiency, public image, and transparent operation of the Admin Board, the Executive Committee succeeded out of pure force, marking the beginning of a new era in Port Zen.
