Voldemort

(a.k.a. Voldemort)

No one knows Voldemort's real name, but some suspect that he is French in origin. He appeared in England in the 1860s and attempted to overthrow the Ministry of Magic and take over, creating a private army in the Death Eaters. He recruited primarily Purebloods, promising freedom from Muggle oppression. He attempted to recruit James Potter but was refused, beginning a bitter rivalry between the two wizards. He killed Lord Fleamont Potter and Lady Ann Wen at Potter Manor, though how he got through the blood wards is still a mystery. On 1 May 1871, he murdered Lord James Potter and Lady Lily Evans, leaving their son Henry (Harry) Potter orphaned. However, due to the strength of the magic of all three mages, Voldemort's attempted killing curse on Harry was unsuccessful, leaving the boy with a lightning scar on his wrist and disembodying Voldemort.
