About the kind of game I run

Greetings!

A few quick meta-game highlights. Afeal is:

  • Story driven
  • Low Fantasy
  • Medium magic
  • Low technology

But what does that all mean?

Story Driven: While combat is important to the game, creating an exciting cooperative story is the key. Character development means more than abilities and spells. It means history and accomplishments. You may have a +8 with your bow, but will the tavern owner recognize your name? Will they remember you when you return? Will they be happy when you do? These are the things that drive the game

Low Fantasy: Not real low, this is still D&D, but Poy is a human-centric world. While other races make significant contributions, it is humans that dominate history and make connections between others.
Medium Magic: Powerful wizards and divine clerics walk the world, but they aren't around every corner. Most people never touch magic, not real magic anyway. The party will, but that +1 sword isn't just 'another nice blade' but something special.
Low technology: It's a medieval setting. Bows and blades are the rule, not guns and ammo. Horsepower is measured in actual horses. 'Modern' technology won't work. You can mix sulfur, saltpeter, charcoal. Pack it in a metal tube. Put a lead ball in front of it and light it off. There will probably be a little smoke and that's it. Nine times out of ten, 'technology' fails. Why? Because magic.
Summary:: I run a game that is closer to Lord of the Rings than Harry Potter.
